AKEMI, HOMURA
There is so much that Helen doesn't know about Homura, and yet, there's so much that she understands. She can see her pain, her resolve, her determination, because it's all written on her face. And, yes, to everyone else, it may look like a blank face? But Helen knows better, given she's one of the most stoic people in Sanctuary, and she knows that's something learned after years, the gradual wearing down of emotion and grief. To that end, she understands her greatly, because they're very much in the same boat--sacrificing for others, knowledgeable far past the surface of the world, etc. This is where her protectiveness comes in. Children are to be protected under her train of thought. She's a mommy, it's what she does. Knowing how hard she's had it, but not he specific parts, she can't help but really want to help her through this and give her a child's happiness. Homura deserves that. So, at times, she takes away that responsibility, or she decides not to put it on her shoulders. It'd be unfair, and that's not how she does things.
On the other hand, she also finds such a strong person in Homura, so she does put her in charge sometimes. She knows she has a good head on her shoulders, she believes in her. Also, the fact that she's learned Bending at a fast pace makes Helen smile.
Homura has quickly become her surrogate daughter in Nautilus.

LAMPEROUGE, LELOUCH
There is very little Helen knows about Lelouch, but the things she does know is that he's a very capable individual, very organized, and he doesn't seem to be very distracted by anything but his own resolve and his plan. That's something she admires in others, she rarely sees it, and it's fascinating to know and think that someone of his age would have that so fine-tuned. I can't exactly say Helen trusts Lelouch--he's too old to have her mother's trust, and he hadn't done enough to earn her team member trust--because she doesn't, but she knows that she should and that if the time comes that she needs to, and she's faced with a decision of who to trust, she'll trust Lelouch over anyone else.
As always, she mothers everyone. This is something common for Helen. The fact that Lelouch took care of her when she was time-backtracked is definitely something that she holds dear to her heart, because she was incredibly vulnerable then, and him helping her get better and not expecting anything in return was a big wake-up call then, and continues to be now. It's weird. It's not normal anywhere but here, and she finds it a comfort that she most likely won't call upon ever again. She may have a thankful smile that's reserved specifically for Lelouch, though. And that's an accomplishment.
Lelouch could almost, almost be considered a part of the Nautilus Sanctuary team. When she invites him to dinner, that's a sign he's accepted. Even getting this far, however, is a huge effort.

"ANNOYING", SIDESWIPE "THE
You piss her off. Well, you used to. Incredibly. She was just like why are you so abrasive and why are you so ignorant and why are you so thick headed is it because you're made of metal? and as horrible as all of that sounds, if you put it in a more fascinated than angry voice, you get Helen's reaction to their first few clashes. Really, Sideswipe confuses her more than he irritates her, but confusing Helen is one way to make her angry, especially when she can't see any other alternative, or when she's given no hint.
Oh, and insulting her intelligence will also get you a one-way trip to hell. She worked incredibly hard to get her doctorate, she was one of, if not the first female doctor, so that's a slap in the face. Turn human so she can slap you back, Sideswipe!
All that considered, recently, she has reason to give him admiration. He's a fighter, and he said that protecting is one of his top priorities. This is a good thing. This is an admirable thing. And their conversation didn't end in hostility, just a bit of snarky concern. Helen became concerned. Even if you piss her off sometimes.
Basically: they need to learn how to talk to each other and I think they'll be fine. He's outside of her circle, someone she'd refer to as an "acquaintance". To her, his negatives are outweighing his pros, though, so unless they get to be on better terms, it's not gonna change.

"DEVET", DEMYX
Demyx, her music buddy and teacher!
No one in Nautilus knows as much as he does, so it goes without saying that she trusts him immensely. They have this quirky relationship where she knows how far he'll go, but she always teases him--'Oh, honestly, Demyx. It's just a dissection. You should help me.'--about his limits. She will get you to dissect something one day, Demyx. Otherwise, I think their relationship is very... organic. It's very close friends-ish. They can play together on the piano (or play a piece together on separate instruments) and Helen can feel close to him. He makes her feel a little more at home in Nautilus. He's not her emotional compass, but he's getting to be pretty near being so.
Also, as her Bending teacher, she has an enormous amount of respect for Demyx. Seriously. If he told her to do something, I don't think she'd object beyond a simple and the magic word would be? He's done too much, and been through too much for her to doubt him.
On the flip side, now that he's this close, I don't think he'll ever know about her ex-fiance, Druitt. She really doesn't want to see Demyx's reaction to that.

"HUITIÈME", AXEL
Axel. Why are you so interesting?
No, seriously, why? Helen has a bad feeling about him sometimes: very 'there's something quite off about him' that sort of makes her stare. But--then he does something like remember those who've gone to Sleep, and she just sort of shakes her head to get rid of that thought. He's delightfully complex, which is something Helen finds fascinating--in a non-science way. Most recently, the fact that he had that many friends that he actually cared for, and knew each one--Helen doesn't understand that, since she has such a small group of friends. The only people she knows that well are her patients. It makes her think about how she needs to change, which I have to say thank you Axel for that. She may not comment to everything of his, but she does take note, especially since he's a close friend of Demyx's. She thinks that he's a good role model, despite her initial feeling, since he looks after Roxas and Xion. Most of her outlook on Axel is good, and she wants to know more about him.
But. She also knows that relationships, particularly ones with intelligent people like Axel, require give and take. And Helen doesn't give out her past willy-nilly, not unless she feels an emotional bond really quickly. So, of course, she tries to steer away from learning more about him, because if she learns about him, that means he'll probably ask for her past in return, and she's not willing to trust him so easily.
That, however, doesn't mean she doesn't want to. There's a million walls between her and everyone else, though. If something pressing happens, or if they have to work together, that might be the next step in her actually confessing some of her past.

SALAZAR, REX
If Homura is her surrogate daughter, Rex is her surrogate son. Rex helped early on, I think he's one of the few if not the only one that helped her in her first few days and he continued being there, so she feels an easiness with him. They might not have bonded quickly, but Rex would be on her mind if she needed to ask about something in Nautilus.
During this event, whoah. Because she met Dr. Holiday and bonded with her so easily, she finds it easier to feel motherly towards Rex, even if she felt that way before. Seeing him work so hard to save everyone gave her some insight into how he must feel--it resonates with how hard she works around the clock, every month and every year of her life to keep Abnormals safe. Although we haven't gotten to the point in the log yet where he actually cures her, I can imagine how horrified she'd be horrified at her actions, that she turned into another Abnormal (again; lol this would be what the third time in three years? Geez, Magnus) and although she has many others around, she'd hold onto Rex for a little while.
All these maternal feelings.
I have to say, her actually clasping the crook of Rex's elbow? It seems pretty insignificant compared to pretty much everything else, but because Helen isn't too big on contact (the two times she's actually had contact with someone in canon that goes beyond her functioning as a doctor? They're the annual crazy-Magnus episodes where her inhibitions are thrown out of the window. Either it's crazy-Magnus or a fairly heavy, emotional scene) the fact that she ventured out of her sphere to try and give him some physical comfort is pretty big, even if it's that small. So yeah, she's concerned about him. He hits so many of the points that she sees in herself and in other Abnormals. She wants to hug him (and may do that later on) and just tell him that he isn't alone. But, you know. Walls. Barriers. She doesn't think telling him how she's guilty of the same thing would make him feel any better, and she wants that above all.
In her eyes, Rex really is quite the blessing, and she isn't even from Rex's world. She'd love to show you, Rex, but the more precious you become to Helen, the more hesitant she is to tell you about her past.

INOUE, ORIHIME
She feels Orihime is truly unique and special, someone to be treasured and someone to let shine. I have an image of her braiding Orihime's hair stuck in my mind--it's the sort of thing she'd do. She kind of misses her since they don't talk all that much, but she is aware of her movements. Helen really isn't aware of just how powerful Orihime is, I think, but if she ever needs her help, she'll be pleasantly surprised.
For now, she'll keep her distance. She thinks Orihime knows enough people to be well-protected, and while that's not the extent of their relationship, Orihime doesn't make her worry. She's a good kid with a good head on her shoulders. Albeit a slightly weird one. Most, if not all of her walls are still up, so I guess it's a very casual relationship these two have.

"PREMIÈRE", XEMNAS
Xemnas certainly is an odd one. He's gained Helen's attention and... some... strange part of her respect. Their first encounter wasn't exactly constructive, not really... what else do you call sedating a dragon pokemon? She's still sort of glad she got to calm him down, however, given meeting him again while rebuilding pretty much is what was the extra push to have her learn Bending. Like, seriously, she might be working on just offensive stuff, but his display of that power? Is definitely something she wants to accomplish. Not that she'll ever admit it to him or someone else unless she drinks herself to near death.
He's very well-spoken and educated, which she can definitely appreciate in a world of what seems to be teenagers. (Well, she's 160; everyone's a teenager to her.) The funny thing about Xemnas is that while she knows he's a Nobody, he certainly doesn't seem to be like the Nobodies she knows (Roxas, Axel, Demyx). In fact, he seems a lot like her. She sees everything at a distance and her heart's very guarded, not a lot can get through to her emotionally, she's very stoic at heart, and she sees that Xemnas doesn't respond to situations emotionally either, so there's also a bit of familiarity there.
All in all, he's an acquaintence. Helen doesn't know too much about him. He seems like someone very professional and work-oriented to her, which is definitely something she finds interesting, if only because she's like that, and for specific reasons. I don't know if they could rise past acquaintances, but that'd be extremely interesting to watch.

BEARDIGAN, KYLE
Kyle. Kyle, what can she really say about you? You seem like you have the biggest ego ever, but then you surprise her by, you know, not being so pigheaded. She doesn't know if you're Gaston or the Beast right now, but there's one thing for certain: you've got her attention. She tries not to show it, of course, because what is giving people you enjoy spending time with attention, but she might offhandedly reference something he's said or something that's happened to him. She pays attention. Just not as far as to show him that. The art of being aloof, she has it down pat.
She's quite curious about his canon update, though. He seems to have settled down, and this is something she wants to know more about because what is this person, and wow, he settled down, was that possible? ... and what's with the facial hair.
But, yes. He's in the acquaintance circle at the moment--I'd like to see that change. He could be a bro. ... sort of.
